Our Story

A pastor is a shepherd, and leads a flock of believers and future believers to God. As a pastor, the call is to guide and direct and protect each one. A relationship with God is fundamental to knowing one’s purpose and calling in life. After all, God created each of us, in his image, no less. We carry in our lives the life of Christ and the Holy Spirit. Now it is Advent season. I would like to share the purpose of the four candles of Advent and how we can light each one and know God’s love.

  1. We have hope of our own future resurrection after our earthly life is over.
  2. We have peace that comes from knowing that God is the King of Kings, ruler of the universe, and our provider and protector and counselor.
  3. We can be filled with joy from the freedom of knowing nothing can separate us from the love of God.
  4. The love of God is deeper and more authentic than love we could ever fabricate.

The center light of Advent is the Christ candle. The birth, life, death, and resurrection of Christ is a story that mirrors our own soul, a reality of history and human experience, and a gift of grace and unmerited favor that flows from the loving heart of God.

My prayer for you, readers, seekers, and people of Amazing Grace Presbyterian Churches, is that you know these truths of God, you trust God to participate in your life, and find security and peace in a tumultuous world. As each candle is lit week by week, the light increases. Let us carry the light of Christ and let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
