Summary
Happy Blessed Sunday!
In today’s New Testament reading of James 2:1-4 and 14-17, James explains to us that we should not show personal favoritism. Just because someone comes into the church with gold rings and fine clothing and then a poor person in disarray, with dirty clothes, that you seat the person all dressed in their finery in the better place while putting the poor person aside somewhere not seen. This is judging people, and it is considered to be held with evil thoughts. James is implying when he says you need to have faith and works. Faith produces works; and works make faith perfect, or complete.
Our Gospel reading was from Mark 7:31-37, Jesus heals a deaf-mute. A man was brought before Jesus and asked to put His hand on him. Jesus put his fingers in his ears and spat and touched his tongue. He then looked to heaven and said “Ephphatha” which is “Be Open”. The man was cured. Jesus asked all the observers to tell no one; but they openly told people about this miracle. Jesus was able to cure the deaf to hear and mute to speak. He didn’t want the attention, he was still on his journey of showing the presence of God’s kingdom and everything God can do for us.
It is always amazing to read the scripture and the parables that Jesus put before us. All He asks is that we have Faith and Believe, and to love one another.
