Summary
Happy Blessed Sunday!
Pastor Peggy provided us with a worship service based on 1 Kings 19: 1-18. I know we talked a little about this verse a couple of weeks ago, but the message was about being depressed, into the offering of hope through God and His plan for us!
It was the story of Elijah and the killing of all of Jezebel’s prophets, which caused Elijah to high tail it out and headed for Beersheba. He left his servant there and wandered out into the wilderness, under a Broom tree where he sat. He was down and out and prayed to God to let him die that he was no better than the fathers before him. An angel of God was sent there to provide food and rest to Elijah. He was told that he needed to eat and get refreshed for his journey which would be long, and it took him forty days and forty nights to get to Horeb, Mount Sinai, the mountain of God. When he got there, he went into a cave. God asked him, “What are you doing Elijah?” And Elijah again said that he was running because of killing the prophets and that Jezebel was going to find him to kill him. God sent him out to annoint Elisha to replace him as prophet. Elijah carried on by the strength that God provided to him, food, rest, drink and nourishment, all to carry out His plan.
How amazing! God did not give up on Elijah. Remember the forty days and forty nights? During Noah’s time, it rained forty days and forty nights to flood the earth. Moses was up on Mount Sinai receiving the Law (commandments) from God for forty days and nights. The Israelites ended up in the wilderness after their escape from Pharoh in Egypt for forty years because. of their hard headedness and unbelief to God. Jesus was tempted by the devil forty days and forty nights but did not submit himself to him.
An important number in the bible and for our lives. Hold onto the belief that God is there for us! The message of Hope for our church (God’s temple) and that He will provide us with what we need.
Pastor Peggy gave us a great sermon, showing us about being down and then having hope to get out of the depression!
