Summary
We celebrate Memorial Day this weekend. To all who have lost loved ones in the service of our country, blessings and comfort.
It is also Trinity Sunday in which we talk fresh looks at the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – Three expressions of one God.
Are we amazed at the experience of the Trinity – God the Father, Jesus the Son of God, and the Holy Spirit? We should be! The Trinity appears in the first three verses of the Bible – In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The Holy Spirit hovered over the waters. Then God spoke – “Let us make man in our image.”
God spoke – the Logos, the Word of God – Jesus is the Word. John 1 says it clearly – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Make man – human life – in our image, which means our spirits and minds and souls reflect the essence of God, as well as our bodies, formed from the earth. It was the breath of God – the Holy Spirit – that animates our bodies. In our fallen world, it is a lifelong struggle to be that reflection of God’s love, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we trust that we can.
If we are made in His image we have a unique relationship with God – one of attachment, of love, of commitment. He loved us first – and we respond. Often Christians focus on one or two of the persons of the Trinity – let’s include all three in our lives. One God, three expressions. The Father created us, the Son spoke us into being and redeemed us, and the Holy Spirit sustains us.
Many blessings,
Cheri
