Summary
Dear Amazing Grace people,
Our sermon today was called “Grounded.” Jesus is in a continuing conversation with Pharisees. Imagine this scene – the Pharisees are richly dressed and fed, standing in the Treasury of the Temple – say no more. By enforcing the ancient Law of Moses, they have become powerful and wealthy. Before them stands Jesus – a plain, homely, diminutive figure – who sleeps anywhere he can find, prays more than eats, wears plain simple clothes, might not shave every day – the appearance of a commoner, at best. He is telling the Pharisees that he is the light of the world, he only tells the truth that his Father tells him.
This is a lot for the Pharisees to digest – Jesus has told them that his testimony is true because the Father is his witness; the Father no one sees. Jesus speaks that if they do not believe him, they will die in their sins. As he speaks, several Jewish people in the surrounding area believe him, and Jesus tells them that they will know the truth, and the truth will set them free.
Thank you,
His,
Cheri
