Summary
Happy Blessed Sunday!
Pastor Kathleen Griffin came and directed our worship service. Her sermon was “Strong in the Lord”.
It covered John 6:56-69 and then Ephesians 6:10-20 (we continue our journey through Ephesians).
In John, Jesus is making it clear that eternal life is gained by believing, by faith, by each individual. He was trying to get religious leaders to see beyond the physical aspect of His teaching, but if they believed on Him they would have eternal life. Simon Peter answered Jesus, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
In Ephesians, Paul who spent a lot of time in the presence of soldiers who were holding him captive, using the metaphor of being a “good soldier” to describe how we as Christians should live. The pieces of armor (the armor of God), put on through prayer which provided strength in the Lord. To paraphrase, the pieces of armor, truth (belt), righteousness (breastplate) , peace (shoes), faith (shield), salvation (helmet), and spirit (sword). By covering ourselves with the spiritual armor of God, His strength protects us.
Isn’t that a blessing to know that the Lord has given us opportunities to be strong in and with Him?
