Summary
Happy Blessed Sunday!
It was an interesting service today . We celebrated birthdays and anniversaries (many for August).
We had a Hats and Pearls day for the women which you will see in the video. It was a fun distraction.
Susan and Charlie had to be home for an A/C repair, so we ad-libed the music under Bev’s care.
Today’s scripture and sermon were based on the Old Testament 1 Kings 19: 1-4 and New Testament Matthew 17: 1-8.
In 1 Kings 19: 1-4, Elijah flees from Horeb. Ahab had told Jezebel all the things that Elijah did, like killing the prophets with a sword. So Jezebel was looking to get rid of Elijah. He ran for his life. He left his servant in Beersheba and Elijah went off into the wilderness. He prayed to the Lord, “I have had enough, Lord, Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” You know that God directed him to become a prophet and voice of the Lord. He didn’t die, when the Lord was ready, He took him up to heaven in a chariot. Amazing.
Then we were in Matthew 17:1-8. Jesus had taken Peter, James, and John up to the Mount and he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as light as the light. Moses and Elijah were with Him. Peter wanted to build three tabernacles one for each, but a cloud overshadowed them and a voice “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, Hear Him!” When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces, but Jesus said don’t be afraid, and when they lifted their heads, only Jesus was there. Again Amazing.
